1-01 Armbar from Guard

The armbar from guard is a day one technique in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It illustrates jiu-jitsu’s ability to focus the leverage of your entire body on breaking a very tiny piece of bone that stops your arm from swinging like a pinwheel when you do the “what gives?” motion. Learning the armbar teaches you to create angles, to isolate joints, to control space, to break posture, and to use your whole body to finish a submission. To explore the armbar on a conceptual level, you need to be familiar with the components that make it work, so we’ll review the basics before digging into the theory.
