In the last technique, you saw the big-picture view of one of the primary sit-up escape sequences. Now we move from the macro to the micro to address what is often the first step of executing the sit-up escape: addressing crossface control from the bottom of side control. Ultimately, this is undoing a mistake. You should never let your opponent establish a crossface, but sometimes it is unavoidable. Because of how much power the crossface provides, many grapplers choose to suffer through it while they work to escape. In this system, however, we will be proactive and methodically undo what makes the crossface effective. The leg swing is the first part of that process.
