1-2 Triangle Leg Position

This is the most simple place to start with half guard because it’s easy to remember, it accomplishes the simple goal of trapping your opponent’s leg, and it also allows you freedom with your outside leg to post on the ground and frame. You can transition to most other half guard leg configurations from here, and you can also easily squeeze your knees together for some of the off-balancing techniques we will later use.

To get this control, hook your inside leg around your partner’s thigh and place the ankle of that leg behind the knee of your outside leg. You can squeeze your knees together to attach yourself strongly to them for control and off-balancing, and you can also curl your toes up toward your knees to increase this pressure.
