After you rebuild your frame by using the leg swing to get your arm under your opponent’s chin, the next step is to weaken the arm controlling the crossface. If you think back to the basics of posture, you will recall that fundamentally limbs are strongest when they are close to your body. If you look at the GIFs below, you can see that a strong crossface requires a bent arm, so we use our arms as frames and do a shoulder walk to stretch the arm. Notice that I walk in the direction that my head points. This may seem counterintuitive since most side control escapes have you move away to create space between your hips and theirs, but it works. Really well.
